What Gear Does a Gadget Geek Own?

As someone considered a tech authority, I am often asked by family and friends what kind of gear to buy. Short of listing my phone number here and having you call me for shopping advice, here's the gear I've actually shelled out money for, and some buying advice.

My HDTV: Pioneer Kuro PDP-5020FD

Thanks to its deep deep blacks (which creates the stark contrast that make images jump off the screen), this is arguably the greatest TV ever made – except Pioneer couldn't sell enough of them and sold its TV business to Panasonic, which now wears the "best TVs made" mantle, IMHO. Somehow, a site called Shop Digital Online is still selling this extinct model for less than $2,000, and Amazon is selling the 60-inch version (albeit used). Buying Advice: Buy a 3D plasma – they're the best 2D sets available. I'll likely be shifting to a 60-inch Panasonic 3D sometime later this year, and this beautiful 50-inch set will be moved to the bedroom.(The bezel isn't dirty, what you're seeing is a reflection of other stuff in my living room.)
