If you got whacked by Irene, hopefully you had laid in some of the "12 Gadgets Every Home Should Have" I suggested earlier this year. Now that it's goodnight, Irene, may I suggest some new gadgets that may come in handy in Irene's aftermath or the next time you're visited by Mother Nature's wrath.
While you're exercising, you'll likely want to listen to Richard Simmons' Sweatin' to the Oldies (or maybe something a bit more contemporary). Kevin Lee (who helped guide the creation of Monster's Beat headphones) has split off from his dad, Monster Cable founder Noel Lee, to co-create a new headphone/ear bud company called SOL – Soundtrack of Life Republic (you can make out the acronym in the clever logo). Other than low prices ($59-$129) and good sound, the new headphone headbands are constructed of a special polymer guaranteed not to break (and I twisted them unnaturally with nary a stress), and the flat cable on the in-ear buds are designed not to tangle. Each has a detachable cable, with or without an iPhone in-line mic and controls. They'll soon be available in Apple and Best Buy stores.
