Phosphor Appear watch

You know those train station timetable display boards with the flipping fluorescent yellow tiles on a black background that create letters and numbers for destination and track number? Phosphor has adapted this display technology and put it on a watch face, creating a true wrist conversation piece that dad will love to show off to his cronies down at the VFW. The company calls its implementation of this technology "micro-magnetic mechanical" digital; it uses miniature rotors adorned with Swarovski crystals that, as you can see in this video, mechanically rotate 180 degrees in less than 10 milliseconds to "reveal" the time, accompanied by a distinctive clicking sound. There are seven Appear models ranging in price from $199-$249; pictured is the black crystal with IPB case and black leather strap ($210).
