Sprint, AT&T Debut 3D Cell Phones – Why?

Everyone here in Orlando at the CTIA cell phone convention is abuzz over the proposed AT&T/T-Mobile deal. But there also were a couple of actual cell phone introductions. Most prominent were a pair of similar 4G models, both with 3D screens that you don't need glasses to view, and that shoot 3D still pictures and video. But do we want or need a 3D cell phone?

How do 3D movies look?

This still is from the 3D version of The Green Hornet. Even without glasses, the cell phone provided a convincing 3D illusion, as long as you didn't get too close to see the ridged filter on the screen (which you can make out in the photo). EVO 3D will come pre-loaded with Blockbuster On Demand, a source that includes 3D movies, and probably some 3D video games.
