HDTV? HD shmee vee. 1080p HDTVs are suddenly old fashioned here at CES. LG, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba all have announced they'll start selling giant 84-inch LED Ultra HD TVs, with four times the resolution of your HDTV, sometime this spring. UHD TVs look unbelievable – and will be unbelievably expensive.
Samsung unveiled the world's largest – by an inch – 4K Ultra HD, this 85-inch LED model. Other than its 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution (the same as all 4K UHD TVs), Samsung has somehow imbedded a 120 watt speaker system in its bezel and set in this unique stand. While clever, this UHD TV is likely to be priced in the $20-$25k neighborhood, which means anyone who can afford it also can afford an equally priced home theater surround sound system. But it sure is pretty.
