Behind the wheel, I want no distractions from the multi-ton vehicles hurtling around me at 70 MPH. But increasingly, auto makers are loading their cars with advanced (and distracting?) electronics. Here are a few examples of hot new concept cars from the recent CES.
"Cue" stands for "Cadillac User Experience," which employs high-tech 3D navigation and driver control concepts such as proximity sensing, natural voice recognition and haptic feedback, along with AM/FM/HD/Sirius XM radio and integrated iPod connectivity – with a low-tech concealed storage compartment behind the 8-inch touchscreen. At Cue's heart, however, is a completely redesigned Linux-based user interface. Cadillac folks rode along with luxury car owners on daily commutes, vacations, even squeezing into the back seats with families and groceries, to ascertain driver frustrations and needs with this hot new concept car. Cue will come on three Caddy luxury vehicles: the XTS sedan this spring, the ATS compact and the SRX crossover later this year.
