Apps and Tech Help with Taxes

Heading toward the April 15th* tax deadline, it’s a good time for some tips to help with tax preparation, organization, filing and finding out when you will get your return. If you haven’t completed your taxes there are a number of apps and products to make it easier than ever. If you are done with your taxes, check out some of the ways that can make next year’s tax preparation easy for you or your tax accountant.

Help with taxes--How much tax will I owe?

Before you start filling out your tax forms, you can get a rough estimate of your taxes with the TaxCaster app from TurboTax. Perhaps you want to ease your mind before you get started. Or you need to decide to file for an extension or to run out and put some money in an IRA. Maybe you want to plan for a big splurge when you get your refund. Answer a few questions, enter your yearly income and find out how much money you owe in minutes.

This app is not for people who run their own business, freelancers or consultants who file taxes using a Schedule C, or other special circumstances. Still, you can play around with income amounts to see your tax obligation at different income levels. H&R Block Mobile also has a tax estimator.
