Our dens and offices are filled with hip tech, but our kitchens and utility rooms lag far behind those in Europe. For one thing, with strict EU energy efficiency standards, they are all about power and water savings. Here are examples of Europe's appliance superiority from last week's IFA in Berlin.
Bosch company claims this is the world's most efficient dishwasher. It's big eco-advantage: it uses clean water from the last rinse cycle for the first cycle of the next load, so uses just seven liters – 1.8 gallons – to clean 13 standard place settings. Annually, it uses just 205 kWh of juice and 2,053 liters (542 gallons) a year. Bosch's Zeolite drying technology, which absorbs moisture leaving only hot dry air for drying, has won several Germany environmental awards.
