Apple To Change Toys: WowWee Foam Fighters

Remember how you would hold a plane in your hand while running, pretending to fly it around while making machine gun noises? Well, I do. Now you can do this virtually with WowWee's Foam Fighters ($10, May), one of five AppGear app-object packages ($10-$25) from WowWee. You download the app, then suction cup one of the two foam planes in the package to the rear of the iPad under the camera. The app "sees" the plane and puts you in the middle of a series of 16 mission levels – you "steer" through these varying levels by moving the iPad appropriately. You dog-fight, bomb, land on carriers and, if you fail, crash. Having that real plane on the front of iPad somehow makes the experience more immersive than a plain plane simulation.
