Just because I write about technology – and have been for more than a quarter century – doesn't mean I like all technology. As futurist Ray Kurzweil once noted, fire can heat and cook but also burns. Here are a half dozen bytes of modern digital life that inflame me.
Wearing a Bluetooth earpiece while driving? Perfectly acceptable and highly recommended, although I'd rather concentrate on the two-thousand pound piece of metal hurtling at 60 miles an hour I'm controlling and am surrounded by rather than be distracted by the latest office gossip – but that's just me. But you walking down the street, in a shopping mall, in an airport – take that stupid bug out of your ear. You look like Lt. Uhura, and not in a good way. When your phone rings, you may place the Bluetooth earpiece in your ear. Otherwise, stow it. No one looks at you with that insipid blinking blue light in your ear and thinks "Wow, he must get a lot of calls!" They're thinking "This year's nominee for Twit of the Year!"
