As we saw from the seven gadgets I presented last week from the CTIA cell phone show in Orlando, many manufacturers try to differentiate their wares by adding some kind of a twist. Sometimes this twist adds functionality, sometimes it detracts or distracts, and sometimes the twists are just kind of fun. Here are five more gadgets exemplifying each of these twisty qualities.
These solar-powered girly-styled bags ($120-$200) are designed not to power devices directly but to fill a small green battery pack the company calls a Piggy Bank for no reason I could suss. What's goofy, other than the obvious? It takes 13-15 hours in direct sunlight to fill the battery bank with enough sun juice to recharge an iPhone to three-quarters power. Unless you're Lawrence of Arabia, who spends that much time in the sun? You'd probably be better of with smaller, less obvious Solio.
