An iPhone 4 settlement has been reached for owners that experienced dropped calls or other reception problems because of its antenna problems. A poor design placed the antenna in the sides of the phone in such a way that holding the phone could block reception. This was corrected in the iPhone 4S.
In July 2010, Apple offered iPhone 4 owners a free iPhone case or side bumpers that would alleviate the problem. The free case program was only available for a limited time.
Are you eligible for a piece of the settlement?
If you took advantage of the free case offer, you may not be eligible for this settlement, unless you can make a case for why you won't use the case. If you opted to not get the bumper or case, or waited too long and missed getting one, you may be able to make a claim.
The eligibility requirements include:
- Experiencing problems with dropped calls and reception
- Unable to return the iPhone without incurring charges
- Unwillingness to use or get a bumper/case for your iPhone 4
- Be willing to troubleshoot the iPhone's problem or no longer own the iPhone 4
If you qualify, you will receive a $15 cash payment. The settlement is for United States residents only. While the iPhone Settlement Website gives the above troubleshooting Apple support page as the link where iPhone 4 owners can request a free black iPhone bumper. Call AppleCare at 800-275-2273.
The deadline for filing a claim is August 28, 2012. For complete information about the settlement go to the Apple iPhone 4 Settlement Website.
